Local Group Conference - the buzz starts now
Local Groups Conference - it might sound a bit boring but actually for me it's the most inspiring event of the year.
There's still a while to go - it will be happening in Nottingham from 9-11 September - but I'm already looking forward to it. Why?
It's an amazing mix of people coming together to make the planet a better place. It brings together about 350 people from around the country - most of them from our 220 local groups in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Then there will be staff members, volunteers and guest speakers.
As I mentioned in a previous blog, Nnimmo Bassey, award-winning Chair of Friends of the Earth International, will be one of our keynote speakers.
It's always got a varied agenda - talks, workshops on different topics, networking opportunities, stalls and social events in the evening. And the food is always yummy.
The highlight for me is always the Earthmovers Awards ceremony. This is where local groups celebrate their campaign achievements, creativity and ingenuity. I always find myself listening in awe to what people are able to pull off - it's really amazing and reminds me what's possible.
I'm a member of the project group organising the conference and preparations for September are now in full swing. At the moment we're working on the programme which will include other fantastic guest speakers - and some of them might just surprise you.
