London's Low Emissions Zone
1 February 2008

Mayor Livingstone has introduced a capital-wide Low Emission Zone (LEZ) to help improve air quality in the capital.

London's single largest source of air pollution is road traffic.

But the LEZ will only reduce air pollution in some areas of London, leaving other parts dangerously polluted.

We would like to see steps taken so that the whole of London is brought within EU legal limits.

"We welcome the LEZ, but the Mayor's road building schemes such as the Thames Gateway bridge undermine his efforts to improve air quality.
