Minister will face the MOOsic21 October 2010
Solihull Friends of the Earth are hosting a public meeting in Meriden on 4 November.
The meeting will discuss the impact of the meat and dairy industry on the environment. This is part of our Join The Moovement campaign.
Caroline Spelman (Environment Secretary and MP for Meriden) will be speaking at the event. She'll share what the Government is doing to address deforestation in South America as a result of factory farming in the UK.
Caroline Spelman's constituents are really worried about the impact of the food on their plates - and hungry for big changes to the way it's produced.
Co-ordinator of Solihull Friends of the Earth, Niall Kealey
Meeting details:
- Thursday 4 November, 7:30pm
- St. George and St. Theresa Parish Centre, 337 Station Road, Dorridge, Solihull B93 8EZ
- Free entry
Contact Niall Kealey (Coordinator, Solihull Friends of the Earth) on 07530 537178 for more details about the meeting.
There'll also be a screening of the short Friends of the Earth film "Killing Fields". The film shows the destruction in South America caused by large-scale growing of soy - used primarily as high-protein animal feed in UK and Europe.
The meeting takes place in advance of a crucial vote on the Sustainable Livestock Bill - a new law that could revolutionise farming in the UK.
The second reading of this Bill takes place in parliament on 12 November. Please contact your MP asking them to vote for the Bill.
