Merthyr says no to the planned incinerator14 April 2011
Earlier this month 10,000 people submitted objections to the proposed Covanta incinerator in Merthyr.
Friends of the Earth has been working with local residents to raise awareness about how they can fight against the incinerator.
A mobilised community
We set up meetings, street stalls and went door to door to talk to local people about the planned incinerator.
As a result thousands of local residents made objections to the incinerator.
And 150 residents travelled to Bristol to deliver these objections to the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC).
Testing testing
This is only the second ever proposal to be tested through the new fast track planning system by the unelected IPC.
Friends of the Earth are continuing to work with the community of Merthyr to fight the incinerator and test the new planning system.
