Milton Keynes backs wind

Residents to say yes to wind

Milton Keynes Friends of the Earth has been busy building local support for a wind farm application.

The Yes campaign is steadily growing through:

To highlight the benefits of wind power, Milton Keynes Friends of the Earth organised a visit to a wind farm near Cambridge.

The Cambridge wind farm is a similar size to the one proposed near Milton Keynes and currently supplies electricity to around 5,000 homes.

Visitors were able to see first hand how it works, how much electricity the turbines generate and get answers to all their questions.

They discovered the truth behind popular anti-wind arguments like:

  • turbines need to be heated in winter - none of the 5 turbines at the Cambridge wind farm need to be heated in winter
  • turbines regularly kill birds - only two birds have collided with the turbines in 4 years
  • turbines aren't efficient - there's only been 2 days in the last 4 years when the turbines haven't produced electricity.
