New guidance on fracking gives green light25 July 2013
The Government's newly released planning guidance ignores climate change and local voices.
On Friday 19 July the Department for Communities and Local Government released their planning guidance for local authorities on fracking.
It's not good news.
It undermines the UK's commitment to reduce climate change gases and doesn't protect local communities against the risks of pollution.
To top it off, the Government refused to consult the public on the guidance - taking away the voice of local people.
This could threaten communities' quality of life and lead to more climate changing pollution.
Andrew Pendleton, Head of Campaigns, Friends of the Earth
It's clear that the Government is willing to support dirty onshore oil and gas, ignoring both the impact on climate change and concerns of local communities.
