Power Up 2008 a big success17 June 2008
Power Up Participants 2008
Another year, another fantastic Power Up weekend.
An event that brought together community campaigners from across the country, looking at how to use planning and legal knowledge to get results.
Empowering communities
The weekend was in held Birmingham with local site-visits, workshops, and surgeries with planning and legal experts.
There was lots of time to meet each other, share campaign stories, and even play some human bingo!
Areas covered included:
- Influencing planning decisions
- The Freedom of Information Act
- Challenge bad decisions in the courts.
The final day focussed on how to turn this knowledge into campaigns which achieve broad based community support.
One participant said
"I felt very nervous about the planning session - a bit like going to the dentist. But now I feel more confident and empowered".
Power Up 2009
Power Up is an outreach event held every year. We work to make Power Up accessible to a wide range of community representatives, especially those new to environmental campaigning.
Do you know any local groups or individuals who might like to come to next year's Power Up weekend?
