Public meetings send clear message to MPs
14 June 2011

Public meetings have been happening all across the country as part of theĀ Big Climate Reconnection.

The meetings have been organised by the Stop Climate Chaos coalition to call for a stronger Energy Bill.

Over 35 public meetings have taken place in the past few months involving hundreds of constituents and they have had a real impact on the MPs debating the Energy Bill.

Friends of the Earth localĀ groups have played a huge role in organising the meetings.

And Luciana Berger, Shadow Minister for Energy and Climate Change and MP for Liverpool Wavertree, mentioned the Liverpool meeting during the Energy Bill Committee debate.

A few weeks ago I was invited to join a public meeting organised by Friends of the Earth in Liverpool. It was a Saturday, the sun was shining - it was a beautiful day - and both Everton and Liverpool were playing. Despite all that, I was amazed by the number of people who turned up to give me the same message: we must get the Bill right and we need to keep pushing Ministers
