Pushing Europe for climate action
1 July 2011

Dozens of young people formed a disappointed queue for jobs outside the climate talks in Bonn in June.

They were drawing attention to the EU's lack of ambition on tackling climate change.

The action was part of a wider campaign - Push Europe - calling for steep and real greenhouse gas emission reductions.

Recent research by Potsdam Institute found that taking real steps to tackle climate change would create millions of jobs, solving the problems with youth unemployment.

Push Europe campaign is a Europe-wide campaign, involving a number of youth organisations, including:

  • Young Friends of the Earth Europe
  • UK Youth Climate Coalition
  • Young Friends of the Earth Germany.

We aimed to show how the EU is blocking the future of young people and we're calling for youth around Europe to join and put pressure on our politicians together, as their decision is about the future of all of us.

During the climate negotiations in Bonn, the European Union refused to commit to ambitious emission cuts. Instead, it emphasised the use of offsets, which is not real solution.

The European Union has historical responsibility for causing climate change and should be championing the real solutions.

Help us to 'Push Europe'

Over the summer, many people across Europe will send a cent (or a penny) to their national treasuries to demand investment in a low-carbon future.
