Razorlight frontman supports climate solutions
1 June 2007

Johnny Borrell says a strong climate change law will help us to tackle climate change.

He was speaking after spending a low-carbon day with Friends of the Earth. The Razorlight singer raced an electric scooter, recorded in a solar powered studio and enjoyed a locally sourced lunch.

It's amazing to think all the things I did today were so carbon efficient. There's loads of solutions out there, they just need to become mainstream - the Government can make this happen.

Big day out

Johnny turned out in support of Friends of the Earth's climate campaign The Big Ask.

The Big Ask is a fantastic campaign. A strong law will make it easier and cheaper for everyone to make the most of climate change solutions.

Targets on track

The day began with Johnny test driving a Vectrix scooter.

The electric bike has a top speed of 62 mph. Free parking and no congestion charge make it an easy way for commuters to save time and money.

The scooter felt great. You could definitely beat all the traffic in London on that thing.

Solar powered song

Next up was The Premises - Europe's first solar powered studio. Recent clients include Bloc Party and the Klaxons.

Johnny used the studio to record a new song for Friends of the Earth. Download it here.

More than a third of the UK's CO2 emissions come from buildings. Systems like domestic solar power provide solutions to reducing the impact of our energy needs.

I had to stop and think this is really weird. It's raining outside and this is a solar studio but everything is working. It was great!

Low carb diet

Johnny has lunch

Last stop was Konstam - a restaurant that sources over 90% of its ingredients from within the M25. Johnny tucked into a seasonal lunch prepared by his friend and Head Chef, Oliver Rowe.

If you follow the seasons with your shopping basket you're going to save a lot of money.

Oliver Rowe on eating local food

Too often supermarkets fly food into the UK creating massive CO2 emissions. Eating local produce helps to cut food miles, and may also save you money.

Double Decker savings

Between each location Johnny travelled in a hybrid car which runs on both electricity and petrol.

The rest of the crew got a seat on the world's first hybrid double decker bus. By 2012 Transport for London expects every new bus entering service to be a hybrid.
