Setting the record straight on the Sustainable Livestock Bill26 November 2010
The Government got a lot of facts wrong when they opposed our new livestock law - we set the record straight.
During the House of Commons debate on 12 November, food and agriculture Minister Jim Paice laid out the Government's reasons for voting against the Sustainable Livestock Bill.
This new law would have been a big step towards preventing UK meat and dairy production from destroying rainforests and leading to massive climate-changing emissions.
It was clear from his speech that his recognition of the threat has been increased by the campaign. And the huge public support for the campaign means Government can't ignore the issue any more.
But he also got a lot wrong.
Our Executive Director, Andy Atkins, has written to Jim Paice to set the record straight on the many innacuracies.
