Cutting of vital regulation to play havoc with the environment
20 March 2012

As part of the Government's 'red tape challenge' the coalition has announced harmful cuts to environmental protection rules.

Regulations to face the axe or be watered down include:

  • Protection for wildlife
  • Air pollution
  • Environmental noise pollution

Lack of evidence

The announcement outlines Government claims that the removal of these regulations will save businesses money - with no evidence to back this up.

The Government claims this bureaucratic tidying-up exercise will save £1 billion, but there's not a shred of evidence to back up his claim - if they want to save cash they should scrap the red tape challenge instead.

Distraction

The Government should be paving the way for clean British energy rather than focussing time and money on slashing environmental regulations.

Ministers should be focussing on fixing our broken economy by mobilising investment for clean British industries rather than entangling themselves in red tape drudgery.

How you can help

Tinkering with vital regulations should not be a priority in a time of rising fuel bills and soaring climate emissions.

We should have clean British energy but the Big Six energy companies are keeping us hooked on expensive and dirty fossil fuels.

Please sign our petition to give us clean British energy we can all afford. Thank you.
