Government's energy efficiency proposals are too weak10 June 2011
The Government has now published its planned laws to improve the energy efficiency in homes rented from a landlord.
But these proposed amendments to the Energy Bill are disappointing.
The Government promised to set a clear a minimum energy efficiency standard for private rented homes, but these proposals are too weak, too slow and too vague

Last month Chris Huhne pledged to act on energy efficiency in the coldest rented homes.
And Friends of the Earth warmly welcomed this as a big step forward.
But today's proposals are totally inadequate:
- They won't start until 2018
- There's no clear minimum standard of energy efficiency and it won't rise over time
- They don't apply to lettings agents
- There's no protection against eviction for tenants who ask for their home to be improved
MPs must turn up the heat on Ministers to take tougher action to protect tenants living in cold homes
