Community energy could break the power that the Big Six energy companies have over us and our bills.
A new report by Big Society think-tank ResPublica claims that locally-produced green energy can empower communities and help reduce fuel poverty.
The Big Six control 99% of our energy. They are keeping us hooked on expensive imported fossil fuels.
Locally-produced energy could break their grip on the energy market and help tackle climate change.
Next steps
The report - which we support - calls on the Government to:
- Tap into the potential of communities to create their own clean energy.
- Make it easier for local people to come together to produce green energy.
Boosting community energy schemes will enable more cash-strapped households to free themselves from the power of the Big Six and earn money from clean British energy. It's time for Ministers to really give power to the people.
