Operatic activism22 July 2011
A number of Friends of the Earth groups around the country have mixed art and activism by linking up with an award winning opera company.
Together with The Opera Group the groups came up with a short opera focussing on climate change and consumerism
Save the Diva proved a real hit when it was recently performed guerrilla-style on the streets of cities around England and Wales.

A new audience
The performances were a good opportunity for groups to promote their work and talk to members of the public about environmental issues. They ran street stalls and handed out leaflets to the audience.

Members of Camden Friends of the Earth also filmed the ten minute opera - watch it for yourself.

Oxford Friends of the Earth with John Fulljames and their pledge tree
Seven Angels
Save the Diva was produced to complement The Opera Groups' latest full scale piece. Oxford Friends of the Earth got involved in the local performance of Seven Angels.
The group led a discussion on 'art and activism' with The Opera Group's Artistic Director - John Fulljames.
The audience was also invited to make a pledge to address an environmental issue - adding it to a pledge tree set up by the group.
