Shell wins again1 February 2005
After winning 2004's Special Achievement Xpos Award for Services to Africa, the oil and gas company Shell have won the Public Eye Award for the environment outside the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
Flaring gas: Shell disregards people and the environment
Shell was nominated alongside many prestigious opponents, all of whom have excelled in socially and environmentally irresponsible behaviour.
Other winners at the Public Eye Awards include:
- Human rights - Dow Chemical Company
- Labour rights - Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
- Public's Award - Nestlé S.A.
- Taxes - KPMG International

Every year in January, the WEF gathers together political and business leaders and the world media in Davos for an elite discussion of current global political issues, setting global business trends.
For the sixth time, the international NGO coalition The Public Eye on Davos provided an alternative to the WEF by promoting globalisation of justice and environmental sustainability.
