Keeping the faith in Solihull
30 July 2010

Faith groups can be key allies in your local community - here's a great case study from Solihull Friends of the Earth.

Earlier this month saw the first Green Fair in Solihull town centre organised by the Solihull Faith Forum's Eco Group. It was a resounding success, with many visitors including the Deputy Mayor.

Solihull Friends of the Earth were at the Fair, promoting:

  • Their local Get Serious About CO2 campaign.
  • Transition Solihull
  • A 'taste the difference' test using bottled water and tap water

Local group member Carol Linfield (far left in photo) is also active in the Faith Forum and was key in bringing the two groups together.

Solihull Friends of the Earth has also worked with churches to organise screenings of The Age of Stupid. This did much to raise awareness of climate change in the community and build closer ties between the groups.

Inspiration and support for this alliance-building work has come from the Birmingham Faith & Climate Change project, hosted by Birmingham Friends of the Earth.
