Supporter of the week: Sheila Menon
To celebrate Friends of the Earth's 40th anniversary, I've been talking to some of the supporters who've made it all possible. Sheila Menon (right), filmmaker and curator, shoots films for charities such as Friends of the Earth.
"The term 'freelance filmmaker' sounds very glamorous, but it's not. I make short films - often for charities - and I film live music events like Glastonbury and Bestival.
I used to work in corporate film production, but now prefer to apply my skills to help make a difference. But there's no money in it.
"My first film for Friends of the Earth was at the Cancun climate summit last year. More recently I've filmed stunts outside the Houses of Parliament, including one against nuclear power with a huge inflatable white elephant.
"Those are fun - you only have one chance to get your shot so you have to think on your feet, and then edit it all quickly."
Next week: Adam Roxby. To see all the supporters I've interviewed, visit our 40th anniversary gallery. Hannah Booth also writes Lives Less Ordinary.
