To celebrate Friends of the Earth's 40th anniversary, I've been talking to some of the supporters who've made it all possible. Margaret and Nigel Woodward (right) are enjoying the good life in Devon.

"We moved to Totnes in Devon from Beaconsfield 18 months ago - but we should have done it years ago.

"We've reduced our energy consumption by retro-fitting our house with solar panels and rainwater harvesting. It's a better quality of life.

"Totnes has always had an alternative culture - with Dartington and Schumacher College, where there are talks and workshops.

It feels like
people are trying to make a difference.

"Here, people are aware and actively concerned with green issues.

"Beaconsfield is wealthy and materialistic - and people aren't really in tune with environmental problems."

Find out all you need to know about installing renewable energy at home.

Next week: Dina Baird. To see all the supporters I've interviewed, visit our 40th anniversary gallery.
