More and more of us are seeing efforts to tackle climate change changing our own back yards.

Going back to my hometown in Kent, I'm always pleased to see the roof of a new block of flats close to the station gleaming with solar panels - powerful evidence that the fight against climate change is beginning to be taken seriously.

Yet all this could be over before it's even begun, according to a new report from Friends of the Earth.

It's been written by the local government expert at the London School of Economics and it shows how funding cuts are affecting the way councils tackle climate change.

MPs are debating the Government's Energy Bill in Parliament at the moment. If amended in the right way it could help toughen up the action councils have to take to tackle climate change - and give them the right support so they can.

Friends of the Earth wants the Bill to help councils tackle climate change locally - with local green energy and greener, cleaner travel.

Your help is vital to push the Government to make councils do their bit in towns and cities up and down the land. That way, we can all look forward to a green future.

I for one will be hoping they'll be more home towns like mine with roofs gleaming with solar panels in the near future - rather than remain covered with the dull grey slate of the past.
