Round up of Trick or treat action on Halloween3 November 2009
Halloween saw many of our local groups dress up in ghoulish costumes in the name of climate change.
As part of our campaign for a strong and fair agreement at the Copenhagen climate talks they lobbied their MP on 31 October.
Ghostly get up
The Halloween theme had a serious purpose.
Groups asked their MP to write to the Prime Minister in support of our campaign demands.

Winchester Friends of the Earth joined Mark Oaten MP and Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate Martin Tod to show that carbon offsetting is a trick.

Lewes Friends of the Earth met with their local MP Norman Baker to demand a climate treat at Copenhagen.

Brent Friends of the Earth treated the public to climate changed-themed trick or treat magic on Halloween.
Dawn Butler MP joined them on the day and backed the group's call for action.
I have confidence that the Prime Minister will push for a bold and progressive deal in Copenhagen, and I will be writing to him to urge him to do so.
Dawn Butler, MP for Brent South

Theresa May MP visited Maidenhead Friends of the Earth to discuss the campaign.
Theresa agreed to write to the Prime Minister with her concerns over the outcome of the Copenhagen talks.
Political backing
Don Foster MP attended the Halloween event arranged by Bath Friends of the Earth. The group used vampire fangs and witches' capes to demand action on climate change.
It is vital we have an agreement in Copenhagen that makes a real difference. I am working to make sure the Government do not merely agree to make the appearance of cuts by offsetting our emissions against other countries.
Don Foster, MP for Bath
Camden Friends of the Earth took the chance to dress up in front of the Houses of Parliament as well as lobbying their local MPs Frank Dobson and Glenda Jackson.
I will write to the Prime Minister and I believe I will be pushing on an open door. Even for the minority of people who don't believe that climate change is happening, it should make sense to stop wasting energy.
Frank Dobson, MP for Holborn and St. Pancras
Cardiff Friends of the Earth staged a Question-Time style trick or treat event with a variety of speakers who spoke strongly against offsetting. The panel included:
- Raoul Bhambral, Cardiff Friends of the Earth
- Jenny Willott, Liberal Democrat MP for Cardiff Central
- Karen Robson, Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate for Cardiff Central
- Jenny Rathbone, Labour prospective parliamentary candidate for Cardiff Central
- Jill Evans, Plaid Cymru MEP for Wales.
Take action
Friends of the Earth is calling on rich countries to take action to prevent the worst consequences of climate change.
Join thousands across the globe and urge world leaders to do the right thing in Copenhagen.
