Two thirds of British population support wind farms19 April 2012
More than two thirds of the British public support the use of wind power, according to a new report from RenewableUK.
Wind power has many advantages over expensive, dirty fossil fuels:
- It's the best developed of the newer renewable energy technologies.
- It's available now.
- Once built, running costs are very low.
- Fuel is free and inexhaustible.
- There are no waste products.
Wind power could provide around 30% of the UK's electricity needs by 2020. As the UK is now a net importer of oil and gas, wind offers additional benefits in terms of secure energy supplies.
Investing in clean British energy is crucial for tackling soaring fuel bills and slashing carbon emissions - firms are queuing up to bring jobs and prosperity to recession-hit Britain.
