Film night in Wanstead23 March 2012
Wanstead and Woodford Friends of the Earth recently held a film screening to raise the profile of sustainable food production.
The event was a resounding success with over 70 people coming along to see A Farm for the Future.
The film features wildlife film-maker Rebecca Hosking returning to her family's farm in Devon to turn it into a low-energy farm.

The screening was staged with the help of Redbridge Council - who provided funding for local events as part of Climate Week. Group members dressed as cows at the local farmers market to raise awareness.
Local experts
After the film there was a discussion with speakers from local food-growing and sustainability groups including:
- Nic Fripp - Organiclea
- Maggie Burlington - Wanstead Transition Initiative
- Ros Bedlow - Permaculture and Transition Leytonstone
- Robert Greenall - Wanstead & Woodford Friends of the Earth
Everyone also took part in a quiz about the film - the winner received a free subscription to Organiclea's organic box scheme.
Such an enjoyable evening. We're going to take a permaculture course to help us with our allotment.

Taking it home
The group provided home-baked refreshments for the audience beforehand. Everyone also received a free cotton bag filled with sustainable goodies and information about local environmental initiatives.
Great result
The audience gave over £65 in donations and a number of people have got involved with the group and signed up to an email list.
Having a film showing on a Friday night - excellent idea! Hardly any events of this kind in Wanstead - thank you!
