21st January: Rainbow show
21 January 2004

Friends of the Earth
international on the
march

100,000 people took to the streets today for the biggest anti-globalisation march India has ever seen. It was a public and celebratory end to the World Social Forum, with many participants coming together in a rainbow coloured show of drumming, dancing, singing and chanting.

There are a few hoarse voices, but it was a great way to let out some of the anger that's built up over the past few days of hearing about people's suffering because of corporate globalisation.

Marching through the streets of Mumbai

The march ended with a closing rally - more music, dancing and a few speeches - a bit of time to relax in the sun with a cup of chai and beautify ourselves with some henna tattoos!

I'll miss being with my International colleagues. It's been fantastic to work with them and get to know them, and we've played and worked very hard. Our local to global network is one of the most powerful things about Friends of the Earth.

Relaxing at the closing rally

So, time to say goodbye and head for home. The WSF has been a phenomenal experience.

Another world is possible - I've seen a glimpse and it looks amazing.

Don't let big business rule the world,

Hannah
