Xpose Awards: winners
1 November 2004

The 2004 Xpose Awards at the Labour Party Conference were again a huge success.

Attendees turned green with envy when they heard the "marvellous" job corporations and their lobby groups are doing in ripping off communities and governments while trashing the environment around the globe.

And the winners are...

Xposé for Best Omission from a CSR Report:
BAE Systems

Key strength
Establishing precisely how to kill people as effectively as possible with lead-free bullets from 2005!

Xposé for Fleecing Government via Tax Exemptions and Subsidies: Aviation

Key strength
£9.2 billion in free money (aka tax breaks and the like) every year. Who cares about climate change?

Xposé for the Best Voluntary CSR Agreement: Global Compact

Key strength
Much ado about nothing, this scheme was the best at preventing mandatory rules while making the smallest possible difference to the way business is run.

Xposé for Spectacular Special Effects from a Corporate Lobby Group: CBI

Key strength
Drama, drama, drama! Without the CBI, there'd be no excitement in the business pages and CSR would not be the PR dish of the day.

Nigerian kids looking at gas flare

Hot stuff: gas flaring is on the increase thanks to Shell

Xposé for Services to Africa: Shell

Key strength
Talk decidedly different from walk. After all, gas flaring in Nigeria is so damn convenient why should Shell give it up? But shhh don't say that out loud, a greenie might hear you!

Xposé for most injurious product: 4WDs

Key strength
Grrr-factor despite costing a fortune, whilst its most exciting trek is to take 8 year olds to school. Extreme!
