Ask the Assembly to support the Climate Change Bill

In 2006 all of Northern Ireland's MPs pledged their support for a new law to tackle climate change. In response Government plans to introduce a Climate Change Bill.

The challenge now is to make sure the Bill is a strong one - and Northern Ireland opts in.

The Bill should include:

  • Northern Ireland specific strategies and a CO2 reduction target of 3 per cent each year
  • A legally binding 80 per cent reduction on 1990 levels by 2050
  • A sub-committee of the Committee on Climate Change to oversee Northern Ireland’s targets

There are strong moral, economic, social and environmental imperatives for Northern Ireland to do its fair share of CO2 cuts.

Please contact the Assembly's

and ask them to support the Climate Change Bill.
