The UK Climate Change Act was the first national legislation with CO2 emissions targets.
But climate change is a devolved responsibilty so the targets are not legally binding on the Northern Ireland Assembly.
Northern Ireland Climate Change Act
Friends of the Earth is a member of Stop Climate Chaos. As part of the coalition we are campaigning for an Assembly Climate Change Act.
A Northern Ireland Climate Change Act would:
- set a legally binding target of an 80% cut in CO2 by 2050
- plug the gaps in the UK Climate Change Act
- give a clear signal to councils, businesses and individuals
- put Northern Ireland on the path towards a low-carbon economy
Take action
We need your help to win this campaign.
Over the next few months we will be running a series of actions asking you to:
- lobby your MLAs
- send emails and postcards
- take part in events and stunts
We need as many people as we can get to take part. This is your chance to demand this new law so Northern Ireland can do its fair share in tackling climate change.
Please contact our Activism Co-ordinator with your name, email and full postal address.
