Demand greater support for renewable energy13 January 2010
Small-scale renewable energy is needed if we're to meet our CO2 reduction targets. Installing water solar panels, pv and heat pumps on homes and businesses would:
- Help to reduce fuel poverty
- Create 1000s of skilled jobs
- Develop a low-carbon economy
Read about the Green New Deal for more information on green jobs, fuel bills and reducing carbon emissions.
The UK Energy Act 2009 introduced a Feed-In Tariff (FIT). A FIT scheme pays people a premium when they generate enough renewable electricity to feed back into the National Grid.
Small-scale renewables have the potential to generate up to one-third of the UK's electricity.
But the payment in the proposed Renewable Energy Cashback scheme is likely to result in just 2% of electricity coming from micro-renewables.
The Renewable Energy Cashback payment should be increased to encourage people to install renewables.
Email your MP
An Early Day Motion (EDM) has been tabled at Westminster calling for a stronger FIT scheme.
Please email your MP and ask them to sign EDM 276.
