Friends of the Earth has joined farmers in calling on Government to intervene in the farm incomes crisis. Speaking in advance of a rally at Stormont, Food and Farming Campaigner Lisa Fagan said:
"More and more farmers are being forced to go part-time or quit the business altogether because farm incomes are so low. And it's the supermarkets that are driving farm incomes down. The Government must waken up to the need for supermarket regulation. It's time they established an OffShop, an independent watchdog which would force the retail giants to give farmers a fair deal."
