Your views are wanted on the planning system
1 June 2011
Today, Friends of the Earth placed advertisements [1] in local papers across Northern Ireland asking people to fill in a survey [2] about how they view the planning system. The survey is being conducted by Dr Geraint Ellis of Queen's University Belfast on behalf of Friends of the Earth.
The survey is the first phase of an investigation into the planning system by Friends of the Earth. It is being undertaken to improve our understanding of what the people of Northern Ireland think about how planning operates in the region and what needs to be done to make it better.
Friends of the Earth Director, James Orr said:
"This is your opportunity to tell us about your stories and your experiences. Whether you are in business, government, a community group or an individual we want to hear your views. If people believe the planning system is failing we want to know why and to hear their evidence. If planning is working well for you, we want to hear the success stories."
Mr Orr continued:
"There is a new Planning Act, new planning policies and talk of planning going to local councils. With these fundamental changes happening in planning we believe that the changes must be informed by public opinion. Planning is vital to the well being and quality of life in Northern Ireland."
All responses will be dealt with in the strictest confidence and all views and evidence will be considered.
