FOE CALLS FOR URGENT ACTION AS GLACIERS MELT FASTER THAN EVER

26 May 1998

“The loss of the glaciers underlines the profound ecological impacts arising from man-made global warming. Government's and businesses need to get very serious very quickly about measures to deal with this problem before the world suffers irreversible ecological damage. High altitude wildlife habitats are amongst the most fragile on Earth and must urgently be protected from the pollution behind the greenhouse effect.

These findings provide one more reason for Tony Blair's Government to remain firm on its 20 per cent carbon dioxide target.”
