Friends of the Earth today sharply criticised the CBI for attacking the Climate Change Levy as a “flawed energy tax”.
Energy campaigner, Bryony Worthington said:
“The Climate Change Levy taxes users of dirty forms of energy
- it is an essential component in our fight against climate change which
encourages companies to increase their efficiency or switch to cleaner
energy supplies. To claim it is affecting our competitiveness is nonsense
- wholesale prices of electricity have fallen by 40% in the UK leading
to savings of £1.5 billion for industrial and commercial customers.
“The CBI should stop whinging and start encouraging its members to implement energy saving measures. The fact that those with negotiated agreements exempting them from the levy have taken action proves it can be done. The industries which have failed to act are being fools to themselves.”
