GOVERNMENT DEFEATED OVER NEW AIRPORTS

26 Nov 2002

The Government was defeated in the High Court today after a judge ruled that the Government’s consultation process on airport expansion was unfair because it excluded possible expansion at Gatwick.

Friends of the Earth aviation campaigner Paul de Zylva, said:

"The whole consultation is rigged in favour of the aviation industry and against local communities and the environment. The Government should return to the drawing board, and come forward with new proposals that ensure that the air industry pays for the damage it causes. If this happened there might not be any need to build new airports or expand existing ones - either inland or on the coast."
