Is Friends of the Earth involved in the camp at Heathrow?

The climate camp protest at Heathrow Airport was organised by a collective of independent activists.

Friends of the Earth provided legal support to help people campaign within the law. We were not involved in running the event.

Peaceful protest

Friends of the Earth is part of AirportWatch - a coalition against airport expansion. Other members include the Women's Institute and Greenpeace.

Heathrow Airport Ltd failed to get an injunction to prevent members of AirportWatch from peacefully campaigning at the Camp.

Sky-high emissions

Aviation is the UK's fastest-growing source of greenhouse-gas emissions. Friends of the Earth is campaigning for international aviation to be included in the Government's Climate Change Bill.

Airport expansion will increase the growing number of flights - making it virtually impossible for the UK to meet its targets to cut CO2 emissions.

Friends of the Earth operates within the law and supports peaceful non-violent protest
