What does the government say about offsetting?

The Government has introduced a voluntary standard to make carbon offsetting more transparent.

The voluntary standard was released for public consultation in January.

"Offsetting isn't the answer to climate change. The first step should always be to avoid and reduce emissions - by thinking about how we use energy in our homes and businesses, and the way we travel." David Miliband, Environment Secretary.
