What are the Government's proposed changes to the planning system?

The Government's Planning Green Paper promised a faster, fairer planning system, but rejected calls to give local people a chance to influence planning decisions which shape their environment.

Currently a developer can appeal against refusal of planning permission, but members of the public have no right to appeal against the granting of permission - no matter how strong their case.

Friends of the Earth and other major NGOs are campaigning to defend the public's right to participate in the planning process at the national and local level.

Friends of the Earth's Planning website contains further information on how the changes will affect you and what you can do about it.
