What is The Big Ask?

The Big Ask is our biggest ever campaign. It's calling for a strong climate change law – one which reduces CO2 emissions by at least 3% year-on-year.

It asks the big questions about climate change and also gives people real solutions.

Over 130,000 people have taken action – asking their MP to back our proposed Climate Change Bill. Now over 400 MPs support the campaign.

A very big win – but still more to do

In November 2006 a Climate Change Bill was announced in the Queen's Speech. This was a massive success for The Big Ask.

Now we need to make sure that the new Bill is a strong one – comitting the government to annual cuts of carbon dioxide emissions.

We believe this is vital because despite setting long term targets on climate change, the UK’s emissions continue to rise.

Friends of the Earth believe that the Bill should:

Make Ministers draw up plans to deliver at least a 3% cut in emissions each year.
Require an annual report to Parliament on progress in meeting this target.
Force any Government falling behind on the target to improve policies quickly, and create new powers to hold Ministers to account in this area.
