Home > Resource > FAQs > My MP won't sign the Early Day Motion Friends of the Earth is working on. What can I do?
Many MPs are happy to sign up to an EDM when constituents ask.
Some refuse because they are Shadow Cabinet Members or Ministers. Others might feel uneasy committing themselves to a particular viewpoint.
If your MP won't sign an EDM, please send our Supporter Information Team a copy of the MP's letter with a cover note asking for advice.
We will give you a tailor-made response. In this way, we can work to get MP's on board, one by one.
Most members of the cabinet do not sign EDMs although some do. First check if they have signed other EDMs this session.
If they genuinely do not sign EDMs you can write something like:
"Thank you for forwarding my letter to the Minister of State for the Environment. However I would still like to understand your personal views on the subject raised by this EDM, and to know whether or not you support the proposals it includes."
