FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

Do certificates and other claims from timber companies prove that their wood is from a sustainable source?

It is not uncommon for timber suppliers to provide documentation regarding sustainability. Sometimes these may even from Government officials.

However, alone, these are no guarantee that the forest was sustainably managed. Or that the timber is not of an endangered species.

Friends of the Earth's advice is to always ask to see the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certificate.

This is the only internationally recognised standard for sustainable forestry and wood products.

For details of where to get FSC-certified products, check out the FSC web site.

The only recognised standard of sustainable forestry is the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certificate or Trademark.
