Legal challenge over Government's fuel poverty strategy
'Heat our homes, not the planet': Friends and the Earth and Help the Aged highlight the need for a comprehensive energy efficiency programme to end suffering from fuel poverty and tackle climate change outside the High Court today (Monday 6 October).
The two charities are taking the Government to the High Court this week (6-7 October) over its failure to meet its legal duty to tackle fuel poverty.
Although the Government is legally bound to do all that is reasonably possible to eradicate fuel poverty for vulnerable households by 2010 and for all households by 2016, five million households in the United Kingdom will struggle to heat and power their homes this winter.
