Leo Hollis on why cities are good for you20 June 2013
Innovation will make cities into modern-day arks - says Leo Hollis, author of Cities Are Good For You.
When you were a child did you call your neighbours 'auntie' and 'uncle'?
It wouldn't surprise Leo Hollis - especially if you grew up in a city. Because these are places where people make up their own rules.
In this special talk for Friends of the Earth's Big Ideas Change the World, the author argues that cities are as complex as the flow of water or the inner workings of the mind.
And he says you only need to look at a street to see where the power lies.
He believes that a bottom-up approach that puts people first, will see cities overcome gross inequalities - creating shared, sustainable places. But is he too optimistic?
