About us

Good planning is essential for sustainable development and environmental protection. A coalition of the UK 's main environmental, conservation and civic organisations with currently over 5 million members came together out of a deep concern over many of the recommendations of the Barker Review of Land Use Planning.

Having now been incorporated into the Government's Planning Bill, these recommendations would - if implemented in their current form - be a backwards step for the planning system. You can see here our original joint statement . This statement set out our shared vision for why planning matters, what's wrong with Barker and Eddington's planning proposals and what we would have liked to see, and not see, in the Planning White Paper that led to the current Bill .

With the Planning Bill set to become law in December 2008, we are campaigning together to ensure the planning system continues to support sustainable development and gives local voices a strong say in planning decisions.
