FOE SUPPORTS TORY GM MORATORIUM CALL. What about the precautionary principle Mr Blair
3 February 1999
Friends of the Earth has welcomed William Hague's call for a moratorium on genetically modified food. The call was made during Prime Minister's Question Time today.
Tony Juniper, Policy Director at Friends of the Earth said:
We are delighted that William Hague recognises the need for a moratorium on genetically modified crops. We are extremely disappointed by the Prime Minister's response. The Government has promised that it will invoke the precautionary principle when it comes to genetically modified crops. There is already enough scientific evidence to justify a halt on their further development. The Government should implement a five year ban now
