Green poems for red buses

3 February 1998

Up to 18 million bus passengers on some of London's busiest routes, including the 73,137, 159 and 38, will see the chosen poems, about London for Londoners. The poems will be on show fromMay-October 1998. The one-off show will feature new talent alongside the work of established poets including Ivor Cutler, Sophie Hannah, John Hegley and many more.

Poet John Hegley said: “Buses are friends of the earth themselves and putting these poems on board will make them even better. Yo.”

Poems should:

  • be up to 20 lines long

  • be on the theme of London - The Living City - a celebration of the people and places you know or your vision of how you would like London to be in the future.

  • show an awareness and appreciation of the natural and built environment, but they don't have to have an explicit environmental message. They can be humorous

.Poets under 18 years old are asked to state their age clearly on their entry.
