Foe backs green investment company

Speaking on the same platform as Energy Minister John Battle, Charles Secrett commented: “You only have to look at this years weather to realise that climate change is a threat that is not going to go away. Investing in the Wind Fund is supporting a clean green future that works. If the Wind Fund did not exist, the environmental movement would have invented it.”

[1] Energy Minister, John Battle MP, and Friends of the Earth Executive Director Charles Secrett will speak at the launch of the new share issue of the Wind Fund plc on Wednesday 13 May 198. The share issue is being launched at The Geological Society Lecture Theatre, Burlington House,Piccadilly, London W1V OJU at 9.30-10.45

[2] The Wind Fund plc is an investment fund for small scale renewable energy projects in the UK. it was launched by Triodos Bank in 1995. It provides a way of pooling both smaller individual investments and larger institutional investments to provide equity capital for carefully selected renewable energy schemes, particularly Wind and small-scale hydro-power. The Wind Fund has a strict Code of Practice, building on planning guidelines developed by Friends of the Earth and the British Wind Energy Association. The Code encourages small-scale projects planned against a background of meaningful public consultation.

[3] Triodos Bank is a social bank lending exclusively to projects with social and environmental objectives. Triodos Bank was established in the Netherlands in 1980 and now operates in Belgium(since 1993) and the UK. In 1996, Triodos Bank and Friends of the Earth launched the Earth Saver Bank Account, a savings account which helps fund sustainable energy projects.
