Duncan Smith Reveals Green Tory Agenda
25 July 2001
Following Iain Duncan Smith's speech at Solar Century at 11.00am today, Charles Secrett, Director of Friends of the Earth, commented:
"This is a good green speech, and we warmly welcome Iain Duncan Smith's new green Tory initiatives. The leadership contest is an important springboard for new thinking in the party. For too long the Tory Party has been silent about the environmental agenda. Iain Duncan Smith has made a compelling speech which clearly articulates the links between Conservative thinking and the need to conserve the environment. Let's hope that Ken Clarke is provoked into explaining his environmental concerns. The whole Conservative Party must engage fully with this agenda or risk being further marginalised. We wish more Government Ministers publically promoted British renewable energy companies, like Solar Century, as Mr Duncan Smith is doing."
