Roads cut but m25 widening is nonsensical

However campaigners are disappointed and angry by news that over £95 million that could be spent on our underfunded railways will be wasted on the nonsensical widening of the M25.
Roger Higman, Friends of the Earth's Senior Transport Campaigner said:
“Friends of the Earth has campaigned for this shift in policy for over ten years.We are overjoyed that John Prescott has cancelled or suspended almost 100 road schemes and saved dozens of wildlife sites from destruction. Reinvesting the money saved in traffic management and public transport will be a more cost-effective and less damaging way of solving our congestion problems.
“However, we are disappointed and angry that the Government intends to widen parts of the M25 to twelve lanes. This nonsensical decision will make congestion to the west of London worse and eat up £95 million that could have been spent on public transport.”
