Foe welcomes warning on dibden bay

Friends of the Earth welcomed today's warning from the Countryside Agency that developing a super port at Dibden Bay near Southampton will have a “dramatic, negative environmental impact” on a national park [1].
The Countryside agency is not the first Government advisor to make a significant move against the development plans by Associated British Ports [ABP]. Last month English Nature designated Dibden Bay a Site of Special Scientific Interest [SSSI]. And he Environment Agency has expressed grave concerns about the inadequacy of the environmental information provided by the company.
Brenda Pollack Regional Campaigns Co-ordinator for Friends of the Earth, said
“Dibden Bay is a vitally important wildlife haven. Its crazy that plans to develop it are seriously being considered. The Inspector should now delay the Public Inquiry to allow Associated British Ports to reconsider. A lot of time and money would be saved if ABP withdrew its application.”

1. The Countryside Agency today said that it was concerned at the effects a planned port at Dibden Bay would have on the New Forest National Park and the New Forest Heritage Area.
