Hundreds of Archaeologists to protest at Newbury
9 March 1996
Donnington Castle Nr Newbury Berkshire From 12 noon
Hundreds of archaeologists will gather at Donnington Castle near Newbury to express their concern about the destructive nature of projects such as the controversial Newbury bypass. They will also be speaking out against the link between major developments' and archaeology: Most archaeological excavations are funded by large and destructive projects.
The gathering will be very colourful: Many people are expected to attend wearing period' costumes, including a group of minstrels. Other people will be carrying banners.
PLEASE NOTE: Unfortunately, Tony Robinson cannot now attend - though he is supporting the event.
