HEALTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT - A ONE-DAY CONFERENCE

17 June 1996

Health, Wellbeing and the Urban Environment A one-day conference hosted by Friends of the Earth and the Association of General Practice in Urban Deprived Areas Friday July 12 1996, 9.30-17.30 Church House Conference Centre, Dean's Yard, Westminster, London SW1

A major conference to examine the links between health and the urban environment is being held in London on Friday 12th July. The organisers are Friends of the Earth (FOE) and the Association of General Practice in Urban Deprived Areas (AGUDA).

Hundreds of thousands of people in Britain suffer from air pollution, damp housing, contaminated drinking water and traffic-congested streets. The costs of lost production and health care run into millions of pounds each year, while the health service is the subject of hours of bitter political debate. How best to tackle these issues is the theme of this conference.

There will be ample opportunity to debate and discuss potential solutions to pressing environment and health problems, including the Government's soon to be published UK Environment and Health Action Plan', with a high calibre audience drawn from policy-makers, advisers and practitioners.

"We are hosting this conference to open discussion on true preventative medicine - the medicine of environmental protection," said Duncan McLaren for Friends of the Earth.
